I was born and raised in Dallas and lived on our family’s ranch, Hy-View Ranch, in Richardson, Texas located on Campbell Road and now commonly referred to as Canyon Creek Estates. At age 5 we moved to the Park Cities so that my brother and I could go to HPISD…..today, I still reside in the Park Cities.
Graduated from Highland Park High School and went to Texas Tech University and University of N. Texas where I graduated and began work on my Masters in Early Childhood Education/Child Development.
During my college career, I always worked at one thing or another, but never failed to nurture my love for houses and real estate. My grandmother, Elsie Huffhines Stanford, an original settling family of Richardson, Texas, was in commercial real estate until her recent death in 2006 at age 90. She was a master and fortunately for me, taught me everything she knew. My patience was not as generous as hers, so residential quickly became my passion; none of that long term waiting for the end result. I always loved just simply driving around Dallas and the Park Cities and in my mind, changing those properties that appeared to have become worn out, tired, and in need of a good makeover. In my mind, I could think of so many ways I “re-create” a home’s look and improve its value knowing that there was someone out there that would buy it. For me, it was always a questions of how do I compare to other properties in location, quality, and price. Today, I still maintain the same question and particularly in our current market.
As time went on and I purchased my first piece of real estate in the late 1970’s and sold it again 18 months later for a generous 30K. For sure I was now hooked….As a result, even today, my friends will remind me of my “Gypsy” days; buying, restoring, and selling it, and oh yes; MOVING again…..My son Parker can give you the exact count and address by recalling all “those moves.” As the market, both residential and the world of money began to change, so have Dallas and the Park Cities.
Along the way, I started and built an installation company as a result of working for Norman Brinker in a non-food related company he owned her in Dallas with crews traveling around the United States installing Blockbuster Video stores; furniture and fixtures. Time lines in construction and bringing it all together was a challenge for me that I loved and as a result, built my business to become the largest commercial turn key furniture and fixture installation company in the Southern half of the United States. I later sold it, but it is still in existence today with expanded services for space planning, real estate procurement, and merchandising abilities for national chain retail operations.
After selling my business, I made the decision to get my license and start selling residential real estate and remodeling full time. I have been at it ever since. It’s a blessing to be able to do what you love as people who have experienced it will tell you. My philosophy is, “relationships never go out of style….” Maintain your integrity, keep your market information current and deep, and remember that you are only as good as your last transaction.
Dallas is city that some will say “survives in spite of it self.” I believe that Dallas survives because it never allows itself to lag behind the rest of the world …
